Berklee College of Music wanted to make it easier for prospective students to get a real sense for what life is like at the preeminent institute of contemporary music and the performing arts. No matter how well-conceived and designed, the traditional college website has multiple audiences multiple and goals, making it a challenge to pinpoint content specific to the needs of a prospective student. Mission statements, alumni news, fundraising - while all critical components of the overall brand - can often serve as a potential barrier to a high schooler trying to make an informed decision about one fo the most important decisions they will ever make. Vision was brought in to design the user interface for a interactive app based on the existing printed Berklee viewbook. The solution was to develop a web-based app that cut through the clutter of a traditional website and focus solely on recruitment. The app includes interactive capabilities with hours of video, audio, streaming radio, as well as a play-along module that allowed prospects to test their chops with actual audition notation. The app also includes the full course catalog, the ability to begin the application process, as well as individual user tracking that allowed the admissions staff to better understand user preferences.
